Virgilio Maguiña

Born in one of the small villages of the Cordillera Negra, he was introduced to the outdoors at an early age where a fascination for the mountains was fostered. He feels these 
days spent as a young explorer were a solid foundation for his future
trekking guide career. Now based in Huaraz town.

He studied to be a trekking guide in Huaraz and also he has a degree in elementary school. Fluent in both Spanish and English.

Now, Virgilio Maguiña is an certified trekking guide with over 25 years of experience leading expeditions across some of the peruvian andes’s most remote and challenging terrains. His extensive guiding career spans the treks in the Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Huayhuash. And some treks in the south of Peru, such as Salcantay, Choquequirao, Ausangante, Colca Canyon, etc.

Virgilio Maguiña loves guiding because he gets to share his passion for adventure and challenge with other people, spending time in beautiful places. He enjoys meeting interesting people and sharing experiences with them.

he is known for his warmth, meticulous preparation, and the confidence he instills in those he guides. His approach emphasizes patience and a deep connection to the mountain environment, aiming to help clients discover not just new landscapes but also a profound appreciation for the simplicity and tranquility of mountain life.

In 2008 Virgilio has taken on the role of  Huaraz Operations Coordinator in one of the big tour operators in Peru, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of Huaraz Trekking and Climbing Program on the ground. A consumate professional, Virgilio has guided for this big tour operator leading groups into the Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Huayhuash.

Now, he balancing his role in orchestrating expeditions to the most remote mountains of the peruvian andes. Sharing his love of the outdoors sits at the heart of Virgilio’ ethos, and alongside his impressive guiding and now business resume.
